2016 | “Service-Learning – Studierende engagiert in der Gesellschaft” (students engaged in society) seminar

For a number of years now, the Swiss Centre for Service Learning, a project of the Migros Culture Percentage, has been focused on encouraging the use of service levels at all levels of education. At the university level, it cooperated with the Institute for Business Ethics of the University of St. Gallen in 2016 and took part in the seminar “Service-Learning – Studierende engagiert in der Gesellschaft”, which was led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Schank, a board member of the current association.

Around 20 students gave themselves the task of developing ideas for a Service Learning web platform at Swiss higher education facilities. Among other things, this involved creating the name ben:edu, which stands for beneficium and education. The logo was also developed at this time.

The following students took part in the seminar: Elias Boeni, Fiona Bucher, Camille Chauvin, Achille Chevrier, Michele De Maio, Kilian Elsasser, Martina Gromo, Mirjam Käser, Angelo Kaufmann, Lukas Koller, Lars Marxer, Marija Milutinovic, Julia Moll, Paul-Clemens Sachsen, Ilija Sajlovic, Symeon D. Spiess, Selma Vuckic, Carl Zenger.

Fellowship

In the subsequent semester, the Swiss Centre for Service Learning funded a fellowship for Prof. Dr. Jantje Halberstadt, Leuphana University of Lüneburg, at the University of St. Gallen. Together with Christoph Schank, she drew up numerous documents, which were posted on this website, serving in particular as the basis for the iooi Service Learning tool and the Service Learning Canvas. The fellowship was also supported by the foundation Stiftung Ernst Witzig.
